This fishing report was compiled for the week of April 22, 2013

Editor’s note: The fishing is getting hot at almost all our lakes, bass, crappie, muskie, all are getting active, Bluegill will begin to move into the shallows as the water temperature moves into the high 60s and they will spawn five days before the full moon once the water is steady in the mid to upper 60s. Cave Run Lake: the lake has been getting in full swing with water temperatures topping the 60 degree mark the lake has been reporting good success this week. However, there is a big tournament Saturday April the 20th and 21st on this lake and many of our reporting anglers plan to fish it. First place is 10,000, and it looks to be a big event so our in-depth report on this lake will be next week.

Musky: The muskie fishing is good the baits we have listed for the last few weeks remain good producers, Jerk-baits, lipless crankbaits both seen action this week. The muskie fishing is only going to get better as the spring season gets underway.

Bass: Smallmouth: reports of smallmouth hitting jigs and whacky worms near the dam continue this week.

Largemouth Bass: Most of our reporting anglers are preparing for an annual tournament, until this tournament is over, we won’t see a lot of reports. However, the fish is improving every day one of Tony Grant’s clients caught a whopping bass measuring 26 inches long and 17 inches around the girth the fish was estimated at over 9lbs.

White Bass: white bass has been showing up in the headwater areas of Cave Run, North Fork, Licking River, Beaver Creek all should see the white bass run to begin, the KFWL has reported that Cave Run has a very good population of white bass in the 11 to the 15-inch range this year. If you have success let us know.

Crappie the crappie are starting to heat up as they begin to move into spawning areas, brush piles down trees and other bank structure and places worth checking out the crappie should be in the first 10 feet of water while they are getting ready to spawn, they spawn when the water gets 55 at 5 feet deep.

Grayson Lake: Water levels have remained stable this week; lake temperatures have improved to near 62 degrees. We had a few reports this week of fish being caught on points where the channel came close to the points, lures that had success was Rouge jerkbaits and jigs with a 101 pork frog, brown and yellow color.

Bass: good and improving fishing jerkbaits and jigs on points, road beds and other pre-spawning areas. Crappie: fair to good, fishing swim jigs around down timber and brush piles, let the jig fall into the 10 to the 12-foot range; yellow 1/8 jigs have had the best success for the last few weeks.
Catfish: We had been getting reports of some catfish being caught below the dam.

Greenbo Lake: This lake is producing both trout and bass. Water temperature was 60-64 degrees.
Bass: The bass are in pre-spawn at Greenbo Lake the bass are moving into the shallows; success has been reports using jerkbaits, crankbaits and whacky worms.

Trout: Greenbo was stocked on the 30th of Jan. 2013 with 5,500 rainbow trout… The trout fishing continues to be the bright spot in our fishing reports, some good reports this week fishing Berkley’s power bait. Most of the fish this week were caught fishing deeper areas while fishing from the bank keeping the Power bait just off the bottom.

Catfish: slow, catfish was reported as slow this week fishing very early and mid-day, fish live bait, chubs, small bluegill and cut bait.

Ohio River: The River is in the transformation stage right now all winter the sauger is the main activity this is changing rapidly right now. Bass and walleye are coming on strong in covers and backwater areas fishing crankbaits spinnerbaits.

Largemouth Bass: reported good this week, using jerkbaits, crankbaits and spinnerbaits around rocky points backwater areas and rocky banks.

Below the Dam: Sauger and Walleye with water levels beginning to improve the sauger bite is good, Twin tail grubs on 1/4oz. Ball jigs are still the best producers, using a slow bump the bottom retrieves. We also got reports that running a two jig setup has been producing better strikes. One of the two baits needs to be a little off the bottom.

Stripe Bass We had no reports of stripers this week if you have success let me know so we can pass it along. Bass: above the dam has been slow this week. Some fish were reported taken on lipless crankbaits fishing coves that are holding shad.

Catfish: We didn’t get any reports from catfish anglers this week. We are looking for the white bass run to begin on the river and Little Sandy if you have success let us know.

Yatesville Lake: Lake has seen a lot of fishing activity this past week with a few tournaments posting good results the temperature was 60-62 degrees.

Bass reported improving this week, Fish deep water structure using jigs and jerkbaits, Fish will start to move into pre-spawn staging areas, this is when jerkbaits, crankbaits and spinnerbaits will begin to pay off.

Crappie: slow. Fish the edges of flats in channel bends and old fish attractors using 32 oz. white crappie jigs or live bait.
